The mayor of Redován, Nely Ruiz Peral, and the councilor for Public Safety, Marisol Ibáñez Mazón, signed an agreement today with meteorologist and geographer Pedro Gómez Cascales, the author of the MeteOrihuela project, to include the municipality in the regional weather network he has launched. This will be done through the installation of a weather station on the roof of the Pasitos Nursery School.
This agreement includes a series of services that will benefit the municipality of Redován, which the mayor outlined: “for example, monitoring and, if necessary, early warning of adverse weather events that could affect our population.” Nely Ruiz added that the City Council “will also receive meteorological advice when necessary, especially for outdoor events such as the Patronal Festivals, Easter Week, Carnival, or other parades whose execution depends on good weather.” Meanwhile, the councilor for Public Safety, Marisol Ibáñez, emphasized that this is an “important service for Redován, as it will include the preparation of expert meteorological reports on specific events such as strong wind gusts, torrential rains, or hail that may cause damage to private property. Residents will be able to request the preparation of such documents from the City Council.”
The person in charge of the installation, Pedro Gómez, commented that anyone will be able to check real-time weather conditions in the municipality on the City Council’s website (https://www.redovan.es/). He also added that “these records will be included in the best regional, national, and international meteorological networks, placing Redován on the map of meteorological observations.” The author of the MeteOrihuela project also mentioned that these records will be useful for organizations such as the National Meteorological Agency or television weather segments.
The new weather station measures variables in real-time, such as temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, and precipitation intensity and accumulation. Based on this data, it also provides regional records of dew point, heat index, wind chill, and evapotranspiration.
